Tatiara Terrace Stars 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Lovely fresh green! That is something we haven’t seen a lot of in the past year, but some parts of the country had rain overnight … probably the clouds which passed over us yesterday and dropped nothing!

My farmer father told me his favourite colour was green … it meant that the crops were growing and there was feed for the sheep. Made sense to me!

The blocks in these designs are all based on the same rather intricate Star block, but with lot of the contrast colours removed or bleached.

In these two designs the outer blocks are similar, but ...

Purple Patches 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting … and in one of my favourite colours.

I am looking forward to being old so I can wear purple!

I like to have at least two colour strips around the edge of the blocks in a quilt, at least an inch or two of one, then a contrast binding. That is the minimum for me, and most times I use two before the binding.

I might have to add some narrow borders tot he designs waiting in this project file.

Spinning Pieces 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Lots of small half square triangles can make some stunning designs … like today’s two designs.

I have used a background fabric and two contrast, but one or two extra contrast fabrics could be used.

Vera’s Star 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

One block with several modifications, with the original block used as a quilting motif … and I like the results.

The second variation has a little bit of extra colour added, and like both variations.

Purple Patches 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first design, but should have added a dark block to the centre.

I like to mix light, medium and dark in designs, and find it more interesting than I thought with just one of each rather than more of a mixture.

EQ 4s OP 31, 32 from Virtual Quilter

I like the muted colours in this project file, and I like the design above with the blank space to show off some quilting.

Looks like a lot of busy cross roads in the second design.

Dear, Dear, it’s Bright 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Yesterday 9×9 blocks were too busy, but this project file proves that it is worth making 81 blocks if they are the right blocks and the right contrast and colours.

I love both of these designs!

Cathie’s Corner Cluster 3, 4 from Virtual Quilter

Way too busy … I think that 9×9 blocks is too many.

Much better!

Cathie’s Corner Cluster 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

A new set of blocks, a background fabric and light, medium and dark contrast fabrics. The corner of the blocks will be kept in the lightest contrast fabric, with the rest of the design in either the dark or medium fabrics.

The corner pieces in all the blocks are identical and meet to create a sort of corner block. Interesting!

But what if … I add sashing?

Mmm! I think I like it with sashing! Early days with project file, and I look forward to playing with these blocks.
